The LORD upholds all that fall, and raises up all those that be bowed down. Verse 14
David
has expounded to this point in his psalm on the glorious majesty of
God. He has pointed out that
His kingdom will reign forever and that
every generation shall offer Him praise for His mighty works.
David serves a God of power and strength who reigns in perfect
justice. He vows to continually worship God with energy and exuberance
and make his praise glorious and large unto his glorious King.
Now,
in verses 14 through 16 we will meditate on how personally and
compassionately this King reigns. He is no dictator or despot. In
fact, David now portrays the Lord as supremely benevolent and kind. God
is the Sustainer of all He has created, especially mankind, the jewel
of creation made in the image of God.
Further
meditation on verse 14 reminds us that the greatest work of compassion,
love and provision is God’s marvelous grace to those who have made Him
Lord of their lives.
While
we have already considered the reference pertaining to falling or
bowing under the burdens of life, let us not forget the grace and
forgiveness that Jesus ministers to us again and again when we fall into
sin!
The grace of
God upholds and restores us when temptations have won the day. Guilt
and shame can weigh us down to a place where we are no longer able to
lift our heads again to receive the favor of God.
Yet,
repenting and confessing our sin before Him ushers in His provision of
grace once more. Grace so amazing, grace so divine! All that fall, all that are bowed down will be forgiven all transgressions and renewed with all strength according to His great compassion, mercy and love.
ALL is a very big word, and though I may not appreciate people speaking
in absolutes in my daily exchanges, I am overjoyed and grateful for the
absolutes God defines for us:
Nothing
can ever separate us from the love of God. Romans 8:38 There is no
condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 You
have been set free from sin and become slaves to righteousness. Romans
6:18 Sin shall not be your master because you are not under law, but
under grace. Romans 6:14 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is
Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you
will be saved. Romans 1:9
Dear
saint of the Most High God, you are deeply loved and highly favored.
In our weakness we will sometimes fail, and fall. But our God is slow
to anger, rich in compassion, full of mercy and forgiveness to those who
confess and turn from sin.
As we lean on Him for our strength, we can experience the freedom that
comes from absolute trust in His everlasting love. He is lifting us up,
holding us up, and never keeps a record of wrongs. As far as the east
is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us!
Halleluia! Repent and turn from your sin. Be released to serve Him afresh today!
God
of all compassion and mercy, I extol You, my King, my God! You are
abounding in grace, a never ending source of mercy. Thank you for
lifting me up and giving me strength each day to stand in Your grace and
serve You. I offer up my life to nobody else but You, Lord. Amen.
