“They shall abundantly utter the memory of your great goodness, and shall sing of your righteousness.” Verse 7
Abundant.: Insanely full and huge. Bubbling and boiling over. It is intense and
beyond comprehension.
Gushing
with force like the Old Faithful Geyser and the fiery explosion of Mt.
Vesuvius all at the same time! God’s greatness is intense.
Our
praise therefore must be intense: Fervent and flaming, vehement,
zealous and affectionate. Now that’s a list of vocabulary words!
Our praise must be full of life and vigorous, and our hearts and tongues engaged in devoted, deliberate joyful praise. Why?
What
honor or worth is there in lifeless praise? Is the “Man of the Year”
honored if at the banquet his name is never mentioned? Is he
acknowledged if his accomplishments are never listed? Ah, is he
rewarded if everyone sits at table texting or net surfing on their cell
phones while a brief and boring speech is given?
What honor is there if not a sound is uttered when that game winning touchdown is scored? Hah!
A roar of ecstatic appreciation and excitement enough to burst a blood
vessel is the norm! High fives, hugs and shouts of joy result.
Newspaper headlines, 5, 6, 7 and 11 o’clock news reports.
Interviews
with players and coaches and endless reviews of the critical plays of
the game. Intensity, short-term.
God
is intense, long-term and forever! Our praises must aspire to measure
up to the worthiness of that intensity, that abundance, that
goodness. We cannot exceed the Truth. Our praise can never be too
“over the top”.
Let
it pour out! Let it gush and let it be fluent and fiery. Pile it on.
Build it up, get lost in it, because lifeless praise is no praise at
all.
As you enter
into exuberant, joyful praise you will find yourself at a loss. The
utterance of speech will fail. But, the utterance of the fully engaged
heart and spirit will abound. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak audibly
through you the praise of the King. Open your mouth. He will offer the
praises of a thousand tongues!
Sing
of His righteousness, His absolute holiness and perfection and
judgment. Singer that I am, I eagerly enter into songs declaring God’s
goodness, mercy, forgiveness and love.
The
Cross of Christ, the mysterious means by which God has ministered both
justice and mercy to poor sinners, is the gift we rejoice in, His
righteousness for the forgiveness of sins. Halleluia, O Holy God.
Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ! Make His praise glorious with this
awesome song of worship today.
